Cheryl Page has a BS degree in education (secondary mathematics/biology certifications, University of Texas at Austin), and MS and PhD degrees in civil engineering (environmental emphasis) from Texas A&M University. After receiving her BS degree, she taught high school mathematics for several years in Texas public schools as well as overseas. Also, she worked as a technical writer for a defense contractor (E-Systems, which is now a part of Raytheon) for three years. In the 1990’s, she began her graduate work in enviromental engineering with a research emphasis in biosurfactants, surfactants, and dispersants as applied to oil spill remediation. Her dissertation title was “Oil Spill Chemical Countermeasure Use in Near-shore Environments.”
After graduation, Cheryl joined the research staff at TEES-Corpus Christi and then moved to the TEES-Civil Engineering staff. Her research efforts have expanded to include environmental monitoring in the Texas coastal margin using real time in-situ sensors and high-frequency radar. She has authored/co-authored 18 peer-reviewed publications and numerous conference proceedings. Cheryl has participated as co-PI or senior personnel on several NSF projects including two MRI projects (high-frequency radar and in-situ flow cytometry), one Sensors project, one CLEANER planning grant, one REU project, and one CRCD project (total funding ~$1.7M). At the current time, she is PI on a Texas General Land Office project. She was involved in the proposal writing efforts associated with these projects.
In September 2008, Cheryl joined the SRD group in a part-time capacity while she continues to direct her research projects. She wil be supporting the SRD staff with their TEES grant writing efforts, including NSF RET and NSF CAREER proposal preparation.
